I especially like the scene where Jenny was seated beside the window in a train traveling to Rome, with Lino. Cluadine's Jenny looking out into Italy's rustic, jagged countryside viewed through the window provides contrasting symbol to glamorous stereotypical portrait of Italy and lives of Filipinos in the country. Strength and vulnerability. Polished and raw.

Baretto's turn is probably one of the most notable strength of the movie . she practically stole the scene from Piolo Pascual, who can't even seem to break out from being Piolo Pascual and dwell into his character Lino.

Lamasan is no Brocka, but tries to be somewhere in the middle between Lino and Zalciata.Lawrence P. Hehehe...

I agree, Bonjang... Milan is commercial in its execution (travelogue-like cinematography, love story, etc.); and I hated Piolo Pascual here (I wonder if they'll cut that in QTV's Ang Pinaka). Oh, Happy Together's a million times better than this. I liked it if only for the fact that it didnt merely fabricate sob stories, it also managed to get some truths out of real OFWs, and snuck those stories into the movie.Oggs Cruzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03041599863258946384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31058461.post-52552501607580297052008-09-19T08:29:00.000+08:002008-09-19T08:29:00.000+08:00Watched this a few weeks ago, can't say I liked it...Watched this a few weeks ago, can't say I liked it. It's so - manufactured and never exceeds anything beyond mediocrity. The cinematography is anything but redundant and bland, making use of Milan as a tourist trap, and not much else.

And plus, this whole OFW contrivance to tug the emotional heart-strings of pinoys isn't cutting it for me. It never digs beneath the surface. We get it, it's a sad, sad world out there. But Lamasan explores the obvious - ie. their lost loves, family members etc etc.

Somehow this reminds me of WKW's (much better) "Happy Together". Its premise is almost identical (ship a pair of lovers to some exotique location to - well love and quarell)but touches upon their loneliness discreetly, and yet more effective. hmm, I just wished they did more with "Milan". Just underwhelming stuff.

And am I the only who's sick of Piolo? I have yet to see anything extraordinary out of him beyond melodramatics.bonjanghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07587966527792782641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31058461.post-20222946994999366142008-09-19T07:14:00.000+08:002008-09-19T07:14:00.000+08:00Uy, 3 OFW MOVIES in your blog, preview for our gue...Uy, 3 OFW MOVIES in your blog, preview for our guesting ba ito sa ANG PINAKA? heehee... see us both this Sunday, sa QTV po, 6pm. :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
